Artist Statement

Im my portfolio there will be many projects, thoughts about projects, and thoughts of tools that have been used. I think I got off to a very good start with my portfolio but then i started to forget about it and now i am behind and thats somewhere i dont want to be. I think mt favorite project in this class would have to be the film and shutter speed because it was an easy project to get creative with because it had like a skywriting effect to it and that was something I really did enjoy and plus I think my group was helping out alot. Over the course of this tear i have learned a whole lot of things weather it be from rule of thirds from way in the beginning, or shutter speed from not to long ago, all of this stuff was fun and actually suprisingly easy to learn.

I think the thing I was most successful with was probably the haunted Chavez, and the reason I think that is might be because that was aomething that I could actually have fun and still be creative with because in the other projects I think I tried a little to hard and with the haunted Chavez I kinda just let the project and idea just come to me. I know if I would have put a little more effort into this class I would have been one of the best students in the class and thats all I think I needed to be more sucssesful inthis class.

I think my influences have been the other art work that Ms. Cook has shown us because thier art work looked pretty cool so in the back of my head i would tell myself to try to make something way better but when I did make something good I think it was just like accidental sucsses. I think that when I first started it was like nothing but snap shots for me but then later in the year I was able to forsee the picture before i took it and thats what helped me out the most, just a all around understanding of digital photgraphy.

Shutter Speed

For the first picture we had the setting to a slow shutter speed so that way when we moved around we would still show but it would not appear clear and that was the point because we wanted to give it a ghost feeling. The same thing with the second one because we used our phones to give a glowing effect to the picture it was kinda similar to sky writting if you think about it. The last one was just us to pose perfect as a group.

The Dream!!!

The point of this peoject was to do a photoshop on a picture to make it a dream and the whole point of mines was to make it seem like it was actually day and night at the same time and jst make sure its real enough tp believe but at the same time still unique enough to know its like a dream, and i know that if i had a little more tine it would have been grreat because i did thid in a rush and it came out pretty good i like to think

Frames

When we did this project we really needed to work with the lighting and angles those were the main things we needed for our project because the finished project needed to be turned in a black and white scale so in order foe our project to be complete those things had to all be perfect because when you turn a picture into black and white you dont have color to help out your picture so you need to concentrate on the the angles and the lighting. I did enjoy this project because i didnt think that much I just had fun and my pictures came out pretty good.

Graduation program

After looking at what other students did I was able to tell that I rushed the program I know that this was not my best work. the only thing that I thought I did well was the back I liked the way i did that but that was pretty much it. I think that i learned how to pace myself because i took to long on just one project, at first i thought i did pretty good but like i said once i seen the other students work i was amazed and diappointed, but i have to let this serve as a lesson for me.

Artist statement

In this portfolio all the things that will be found in it are things that i have done in my digital photo class. I have actually learned quite a bit in this class this stuff would be verey helpful if i decided to pursue a career in photography. The trick that we learned that i liked the most was thr rule of thirds because it was something that was small but could positivly impact a picture verey huge.

Compositional Trick #4 Extreme angles

In order to get my angle i had my "MODEL" sit on some stairs ahead of me and I sat on the bottom of the stairs to make it an extreme angle picture. I personally just like the angle of the picture because it seems very original. The whole point of this project was to show something verey normal that you might even see like everyday but show it at an angle that adds a whole lotta artistic feel to thr picture.

Lyrics

The lyrics I chose for this project are SKY'S THE LIMIT by LIL WAYNE.

"Most likley imma die with my finger on the trigger, they tell me dont get high and I should try to make a living, I tell them imma hustla and I'd rather make a killing. Relying on rap, but in the kitchen I'm a chemist, And when I was 5, my favorite movie was "The Gremlins" Ain't got to do with this, but I just thought that I should mention, You looking for divine and the little intervention, And them birds don't fly, without my permission, I'm probably in the sky, flying with the fishes, or maybe in the ocean, swimming with the pigeons, See my world is different, Like Dwayne Wayne, And if you want trouble, I want the same thang."

The main reason I chose these lyrics is because this my favorite song, this song is so strong to because I could just have the worst day possible and if I listen to this song then evrything is ok just by listebing to this song. And what this song says to me is that the sky is really the limit and to not quit until I have reached it and it would not matter if im almost dead this song gives me the energy and adrenaline I need to accomplish my goal. And the way the song is preformed is with so much energy and when I listen to it I feel like all the energy is going straight to me and when I restart the song I get more energy so it is almost unlimited energy for me.

Social Issue

This social issue is about young people such as myself, Being caged both mentally and phisically. They are not allowed to be themselvs because of the people they hang out with or because of the family they are born in. It effects me because i have to always walk around like i am mad or somethin just to make sure that no one messes with me and it is kind of a bummer because nothibg is that good when you are in a bad mood, and the reason i do is because I use it as a defense mechanism and it works so why not use.

I used this statement because I wanted to let the person know that if you are physically bordered to where you cant do the things you want to do then it is simple, just free your mind and that is what I wanted the statement to bring across the observers mind. And the reason I use this picture is a little obvious because it semms as if though i am caged and the statement just lets me know I have to free my mind.

Haunted Chavez

In this project we had to take a picture in the campus of Cesar Chavez high school, the nwe had to make it as scary, and as creepy as possible.
My first idea was to just put a head in a toilet that appeared to be full of blood. The only things that changed by the end were the zombie on the side and to put some yellow stuff on the face to make it seem like urine.
My most difficult descision was to put the black clouds on the picture or to just leave ot alone, because i did not know weather it would add or take away from the picture.
The problem I had was making the zombie as realistic as possible I dont think I accomplished it fully.
I think I did good on my whole idea becuase it was very original.
I think i did well

Scary expressions

Scary Face- When i see this picture it kinda sorta reminds me of the hulk because of the green skin obviously but when I see this picture I also imagine someone just having some fun on photoshop because it looks like an easy project and you can tell by the way it was completed.
Zombie- Again when I see this picture it reminds me of someone just enjoying themselvs on photoshop just because this looks like more of a fun project than the first one because you were able to have alot more fun than the other ones at least thats what i felt when i was doing the project.
Ghost- This one was actually my favorite one to do you probably cant tell it may look a little boring but i was able to learn alot and was actually able to use them thats what made it so fun for me I wont lie this looks like the most boring of my three pisc but it was the most fun for me.

The scream: My interpretation

My personal interpretation is that this picture has more to do with than just him painting someone screaming this has something too do with what he was feeling at the time. Something life changing must have happened and really affected this painting

Self portraits

For our Self-Portrait project we were to take three self-portraits. They were all to be in black and white, and they were all to capture a mood of some sort. We were also challenged to be as artistic as possible, and stay as far away from normal, cliche portraits that we see on personal pages etc. as possible. One had to use the rule of thirds as the base for the composition; One had to incorporate leading lines, and one had to be taken from a more extreme angle.
For this project i did not have to many solid ideas at the time i will admit, but I think that all except the rule of thirds came out pretty good. In my extreme angle I wanted more than just the angle so I decided to give the photograph some meaning. See the background being plain and blank represents the world and all the poeple in it trying to fit in, and my whitr shirt was to represent me being true and pure to myself and not BLENDING in!!!!

Adjustment Layers

In this exercise we learned about Adjustment layers. Adjustment layers allow you to add adjustments to your image on separate layers instead of directly to the image itself. This comes in handy during long complicated projects. In Photoshop every tool is specifically designed to help improve your photo. However, here we took some artistic liberties and explored adjustments creatively.

Contact sheet

I really liked the way my contact sheet came out I wanted to make it seem unorganized and I think I acomlished that.

I made it seem like it was unplaned and made it seem like I just threw it together.

I would have to say that the rule of thirds came out better than i had expected and i was happy with the result.

Compositinal trick #5 Cropping

Cropping is a trick that photographers do all the time, even if they don't realize it. Every time a photographer chooses to cut something out of his/her frame, before they snap the photo, that is in essence cropping. We also have learned tools on Photoshop that allow us to crop an image after we have taken it. When cropping in Photoshop it is possible to improve our composition or change it completely.
The original photo was better than this one I think because it had more of a mood I think that the cropping of this picture took away from that a little bit.
The only thing I like about this picture is the fact that I was able to put my name on it.

Compositional Trick #4 Extreme Angles

When i tool this picture i had to think in my head i need to get at an unatural position to make it original so I had my "model" sit way ahead of me.

I really love the fact that we turned it black and white, I also love the bars behind her it adds a sad mood to the picture.

I think that it would have been better if it was at a loer angle.

Compositinal Trick #3 Macro

The macro function on a camera just enhances any picture taken because it zooms in and blurs out the choice of backround or the foreground.

The depth of field is the way it blurs out part of the picture if it is deep it blurs the backround and if it is shallow it blurs out the foreground.

This would be a verey good picture of choice because in my opinion this could save a badly taken taken picture because it can make a strong emphasis for the picture.

I liked taking this picture because it has a real calm and relaxing mood and macro helped this picture alot because of the blured backround.

Compositional Trick #2 Leading Lines

When we learned about leading lines the main things we learned were that the lines are supposed to lead you to the main emphasis of the picture where ever your picture is taken the lines in the picture are supposed to be eminent and are supposed to lead you to the main idea of the picture taken.
The lines in my picture are doing exactly what they are supposed to do and lead you to the emphasis but the only thing i do not like is the shadow in the foreground of the picture.

Compositinal Trick #1 Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds trick is simple, on your camera there is a display button you click and once that is done a tick tac toe format should pop up and the whole point of this particular trick is to get the emphasis of the photo right in the middle of the intersecting lines on the tic tac toe format
